Welcome to Ka Chai Thai Street Food, a vibrant gem located at 444 Main St, Thomaston, ME. This delightful restaurant has quickly become a favorite for locals and visitors alike, thanks to its authentic Thai flavors and commitment to quality. As I ventured into this charming eatery, I was greeted by a warm ambiance and friendly staff, a perfect prelude to the culinary journey awaiting me.
Ka Chai specializes in crafting dishes that pay homage to traditional Thai street food while utilizing fresh, high-quality ingredients. The enthusiastic feedback from customers like Luc Levensohn highlights the exceptional execution of dishes such as Duck Buns and Tom Kha Soup, the latter being a gluten-free best-seller, introducing patrons to a fragrant Thai coconut soup infused with lemongrass, galangal, and kaffir lime leaves. It's priced at a mere $13.95 and beckons to be savored for its rich and aromatic profile.
The restaurant’s soup offerings do not stop there. The Tom Yum Soup, also gluten-free, delivers a traditional hot and sour experience that is simply a must-try, packed with your choice of chicken or local tofu, tomatoes, mushrooms, and garnished with cilantro. Priced the same at $13.95, it is a delightful option for those who enjoy bold flavors.
Noodle lovers are in for a treat as well. The Tom Yum Noodle Soup, available for $22.00, is a symphony of spicy, sour, and savory notes, brightened with fresh herbs and vibrant bean sprouts. This dish exemplifies the deep, aromatic flavors one would expect from authentic Thai cuisine.
For those seeking robust flavors, the Panang Curry options are simply irresistible. With choices of chicken, tofu, or seafood, this dish is simmered in a creamy Panang curry broth combined with bamboo shoots, red pepper, and Thai sweet basil, served alongside steamed rice for $26.00. It’s a dish that seamlessly combines spice and comfort, promising satisfaction with every spoonful.
Ka Chai Thai Street Food goes the extra mile to accommodate dietary needs, making it a haven for gluten-free diners, with all options clearly labeled on the menu. As noted by Jason Nadeau, the welcoming nature of the staff adds a layer of warmth to this culinary haven.

“ This is the mid coast Asian restaurant I've been looking for. It's bright and clean. Everyone working there seemed happy to be there. The food was fresh, perfectly executed and just outstanding: duck buns, spring rolls, tom kha, pad Thai. ”
“ Absolutely incredible - what a pleasant surprise. The spring rolls are very fresh, the Drunken Noodles and Pad Thai are outstanding - very light, not not oily and FULL of fresh flavor with just enough heat. Very clean establishment too - pristine bathrooms, shiny kitchen an friendly staff. Truly terrific!! ”
“ I am so happy Ka Chai is here in mid coast! Have been going here for a few years now and love all of their food! They are always so friendly and accommodating, whether you dine in or get take out. The place is super clean and the food always tastes fresh and delicious. I especially love the Pad Kee Mao and the crispy chicken wings, but everything I have tried is good. The prices are so fair for what you get. It’s a regular stop on our take out list but it always feels special! ”
“ Really enjoyed the Pad Thai and Tom Yum soup. The people are friendly, gluten free food options are labeled on the menu, and an easy walk from the public EV charging station in town ”
“ I do not understand why this place does not have a line out the door all day every day. The food is EXQUISITE, super fresh and high quality ingredients, and priced right for the portions. To top it off, the interior is beautiful and the staff is so welcoming and helpful. I was skeptical due to the name "street food" and not being sure what that exactly meant but what I found upon trying it was all my Thai food favorites, done 10x better and more authentically than any other restaurant in the area. Highly recommend you go now before this place becomes the Thai version of Primo! P.s. gluten free items are all labeled on the menu! ”
“ This place is beyond amazing. Picked the mix two option with crispy spring rolls and chicken pad Thai. This is genuinely some of the freshest Thai food I have ever experienced! I would absolutely recommend giving Ka Chai a try and will 100% be back in the future!! ”
“ I finally tried Ka Chai and it was excellent! Their online ordering platform worked really well and it was ready right as I walked in the door. It smelled incredible in there, can't wait to try more dishes! ”
“ Delicious authentic Thai food. I thought the prices were high but the portions are huge so I’m not complaining. I appreciate that they use coconut cream and not dairy. But I must warn- they give a spice rating of 1-10 that I think could use some improvement. I chose 2 and it was super spicy, a little too much even. So, be conservative! Otherwise, this place is great for take-out or dine in! I got garlic beef and green curry. ”
